- [Generative Engine Optimization (GEO)](https://seangarschi.com/glossary/generative-engine-optimization): Generative engine optimization is the practice of making content that AI assistants select and quote when generating answers. Unlike search engine optimization, which competes for a position in a list of links, GEO competes for inclusion in a synthesized response that may never produce a click.
- [Answer Engine Optimization (AEO)](https://seangarschi.com/glossary/answer-engine-optimization): Answer engine optimization is the practice of structuring content so it can be lifted directly into an answer surface, a featured snippet, a voice response, or an AI overview. In current usage it is largely interchangeable with generative engine optimization.
- [Entity SEO](https://seangarschi.com/glossary/entity-seo): Entity SEO is the practice of establishing a clear, consistent, machine-resolvable identity for a person, organization, or product across the web, so that search engines and language models can connect every mention to one unambiguous thing rather than guessing.
- [Knowledge Graph](https://seangarschi.com/glossary/knowledge-graph): A knowledge graph is a structured database of entities, people, organizations, places, works, and the relationships between them. Search engines and language models use it to understand that a query refers to a specific thing rather than a string of characters.
- [Schema Markup](https://seangarschi.com/glossary/schema-markup): Schema markup is structured data, usually written as JSON-LD, that explicitly states what a page contains, an organization, a person, a service, a set of questions and answers, so that machines do not have to infer it from prose.
- [llms.txt](https://seangarschi.com/glossary/llms-txt): llms.txt is a markdown file served at a site's root that lists its most important pages with short descriptions, giving language models a curated, low-cost map of the site. It is a community convention rather than an official standard.
- [Extractability](https://seangarschi.com/glossary/extractability): Extractability is the property of a passage that allows it to be quoted verbatim without losing meaning. An extractable answer is self-contained, free of pronouns pointing at earlier paragraphs, and complete in roughly forty to sixty words.
- [Prompt Set Testing](https://seangarschi.com/glossary/prompt-set-testing): Prompt set testing is the practice of running a fixed list of buyer questions against AI assistants on a schedule and recording whether a brand is mentioned, in what position, and with what framing. It is the standard method for measuring AI search visibility.
- [Share of Model](https://seangarschi.com/glossary/share-of-model): Share of model is the percentage of relevant AI-generated answers in which a brand is mentioned, measured across a fixed prompt set. It is the generative-search analogue of share of voice, and the closest thing GEO has to a headline metric.
- [Interactive Web Experience](https://seangarschi.com/glossary/interactive-web-experience): An interactive web experience is a browser-based build that responds to user input and produces a different result per person, a playable instrument, a navigable world, a generative tool. Scroll-triggered animation does not qualify, because the visitor has no agency.
- [Creative Technologist](https://seangarschi.com/glossary/creative-technologist): A creative technologist is a practitioner who originates concepts and implements them in production code, holding both roles that are traditionally split between a creative team and a development team.
- [Drop Page](https://seangarschi.com/glossary/drop-page): A drop page is a site built for a specific release, an album, a product, a collection, designed to convert a concentrated spike of attention into an owned audience. Its defining constraint is that it receives most of its lifetime traffic within about ninety minutes.
- [Web Audio API](https://seangarschi.com/glossary/web-audio-api): The Web Audio API is a browser interface for generating, processing, and scheduling audio with sample-accurate timing. It is what allows a browser-based instrument to feel responsive rather than laggy, because scheduling happens off the main thread.
- [Owned Audience](https://seangarschi.com/glossary/owned-audience): An owned audience is the set of contacts a brand can reach directly, email addresses and phone numbers, without a platform intermediating. It is distinguished from rented audience, such as followers or ad reach, which can be devalued by an algorithm change overnight.
- [Content System](https://seangarschi.com/glossary/content-system): A content system is a repeatable content format combined with the production process and posting cadence required to run it consistently. It replaces per-post creative decisions with a template, which is what makes volume sustainable.
- [Hook Rate](https://seangarschi.com/glossary/hook-rate): Hook rate is the percentage of people who continue watching a video past its opening seconds, typically measured at the three-second mark. It is the earliest reliable indicator of whether a piece of content will earn distribution.
- [Performance Creative](https://seangarschi.com/glossary/performance-creative): Performance creative is advertising produced specifically for measurement, many distinct concepts shipped quickly, judged on cost per outcome rather than on craft, with winners scaled and rebuilt before fatigue sets in.
- [Creative Fatigue](https://seangarschi.com/glossary/creative-fatigue): Creative fatigue is the decline in an advertisement's performance caused by repeated exposure within a target audience. It shows up first as rising cost per acquisition at stable spend, and later as falling click-through.
