**Whether a passage still makes sense when lifted out of its page.**

Extractability is the property of a passage that allows it to be quoted verbatim without losing meaning. An extractable answer is self-contained, free of pronouns pointing at earlier paragraphs, and complete in roughly forty to sixty words.

It is the single most under-optimized property of web content. Most pages bury their answer beneath context that a human reader tolerates and a model discards, which means the page is retrieved and then passed over in favour of one that stated the answer plainly.
