# Schema Markup

Canonical: https://seangarschi.com/glossary/schema-markup

**Structured data that states facts about a page in machine-readable form.**

Schema markup is structured data, usually written as JSON-LD, that explicitly states what a page contains, an organization, a person, a service, a set of questions and answers, so that machines do not have to infer it from prose.

Schema is not a ranking factor on its own. Its value is removing ambiguity and enabling rich results. The largest gains come from connecting types into one graph rather than scattering isolated blocks across pages.
