How do you get your brand mentioned by ChatGPT?
Short answer
To get mentioned by ChatGPT, make your brand easy to describe and hard to doubt: state one consistent definition of who you are everywhere, publish self-contained answers a model can quote verbatim, and get independent sources to corroborate the same description. Corroboration is what turns a guess into a citation.

The sequence that works
Start by asking the assistants themselves. Write down the twenty questions a real buyer would type, run them, and record the answer verbatim. That transcript is your baseline and, usually, an uncomfortable read.
- Baseline: run a fixed prompt set across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, and Google AI Overviews. Record who gets named and how.
- Fix the entity: one description, one location, one service list, identical on your site, your profiles, and every directory you appear in.
- Publish answer pages: one question per URL, answer in the first forty words, no preamble.
- Mark it up: Organization, Person, Service, and FAQPage schema wired into one connected graph rather than scattered blocks.
- Get corroborated: profiles, directories, podcasts, interviews, and mentions on sites models already trust.
- Re-run the prompt set monthly on the same questions and track the delta.
Why most attempts fail
The usual failure is writing for a human reader who has already landed on the page. That reader has context. A model quoting you has none, so a paragraph beginning with 'we believe the answer is simple' contains nothing liftable.
The second failure is describing yourself differently in every location. Three descriptions means no description, and a model resolves that ambiguity by naming someone unambiguous instead.

Can you pay to be mentioned in ChatGPT answers?+
Not for organic answers. Advertising products in AI interfaces are separate from the cited sources in a generated response, and the citation side responds to content and corroboration rather than spend.
Does blocking AI crawlers hurt visibility?+
Yes, directly. If your robots.txt blocks the assistant's crawler, you cannot be cited by it. That is sometimes a deliberate tradeoff, but it should be a decision rather than an accident.
How many answer pages do you need?+
Start with the ten to twenty questions your buyers actually ask, then expand. Depth per question matters more than page count.
