How do you measure AI search visibility?

Short answer

You measure AI visibility with a fixed prompt set: write the twenty to fifty questions your buyers actually ask, run them across each assistant on a schedule, and record whether you are named, in what position, and with what framing. It is a repeated survey rather than a rank tracker, but it trends reliably.

Building the prompt set

Cover four types of question and keep the wording frozen once you start, because changing the prompt destroys comparability.

  • Category questions: 'best interactive web experience studios'
  • Problem questions: 'how do I build a website for an album drop'
  • Brand questions: 'what is Growthr', checks whether your entity resolves correctly
  • Comparison questions: 'X vs Y', checks how you are framed against alternatives

What to record

For each prompt and each assistant: were you mentioned, in what ordinal position, was the description accurate, and were you linked. Accuracy matters as much as presence, being named with a wrong description is a problem to fix, not a win to celebrate.

Run it monthly. Weekly is noise, quarterly is too slow to connect a change to a cause.

Are AI answers consistent between runs?+

No. The same prompt can return different sources across sessions, which is exactly why you need a fixed set run repeatedly rather than a single spot check.

Do I need a paid AI visibility tool?+

Not to start. A spreadsheet and a scheduled hour a month gets you the trend. Tools help once you are tracking hundreds of prompts across several markets.
